HCSO Investigating Houston Police Involved Shooting in North Harris County
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide unit is investigating the fatal shooting of an aggravated robbery suspect by Houston Police officers, after the suspect led them on a chase that ended in north Harris County.
Deputies responded to the 300 block of Abney Drive and Greenspoint Drive around 7:30 pm, Thursday, January 23, 2014.
HCSO Investigators learned that the male suspect was driving a late model Nissan Avalon that had been stolen earlier that evening in a carjacking on Greens Road. The responding officers spotted the vehicle and gave chase.
The suspect crashed his vehicle at the intersection and while running from the vehicle, he fired several shots at the officers. Officers shot back. The suspect then ran between a public easement and backyards.
Other responding officers quickly began searching for the suspect. Officers encountered the suspect in a backyard, and the suspect again fired his weapon at officers. Two Houston Police officers discharged their weapons, striking and killing the suspect.
The suspect, who remains unidentified at this time, may also be linked to an earlier aggravated robbery of a store on Aldine Bender and Imperial Valley.
The Houston Police officers sustained no injuries in the exchange of gunfire with the suspect.
